Can a robot do stand-up comedy?

In this short talk from TEDWomen, Heather Knight gets her robot Data to tell jokes to the TED audience. The robot even gauges the success of its jokes by the audience’s response and changes its act accordingly.

Really, all that the robot is doing is reciting jokes from a database. I’ll be more impressed once it starts making gags of its own.
