Good News! This blog post’s about Russell Howard!

Russell Howard is a lovely young British comedian who first came to my attention as a panelist on Mock the Week. He also has a flourishing stand-up career, and the third series of his TV show ‘Russell Howard’s Good News’ is currently airing in the UK.

Howard is charming, impish, goofy, and smart. His appeal is in his adorableness (and frequent references to Harry Potter). He has endured in the comedy biz because he is so natural in front of the camera, is absolutely genuine, and isn’t afraid to look like an idiot (but an endearing idiot). Here’s some of his stand-up from two years ago:

When I first encountered Howard on Mock the Week, I thought he was cute and quite funny, but he wasn’t in my list of top comedians. Now that he’s hosting his own show (no panelists, no guests – just him. And he writes the whole show himself!), I’m impressed to see that he has stayed true to himself and at the same time improved quite a lot. He is very relaxed and natural in front of the camera, and as the show’s title suggests, his ‘Good News’ is feel-good and kind – no harsh satirical put-downs here. Yet Howard continues to insert his cheeky and clever humour throughout. He is one of Britain’s best young comics.

I'd love to stay and chat but I really moustache

Thanks Rachael for finding this picture. 😉

P.S. Yes, I know I’m really bad at blog post titles.
